Ortho-Keratology
Your safer Alternative to Lasik
Ortho-Keratology, also known as Corneal Reshaping Therapy (CRT), is an overnight treatment using contact lenses. These lenses are worn while you sleep and taken out in the morning. This is a great option for those who don’t want to have LASIK or do not qualify for LASIK surgery.
Dr. Park specializes in Orthokeratology (Ortho-K/Moon Lens/Dream Lenses/Paragon CRT) and is able to treat the majority of prescriptions. Ortho-K makes life easier for people in physically demanding roles -such as athletes or laborers- than daily contacts or glasses.
*Please note that we will need your most up to date prescription to help us determine if Ortho-K will work for you. If you have not had an exam in the last 12 months, we can go over Ortho-K at your annual exam.
More Information
What is Ortho-K? Ortho-K (or ortho-keratology) is a method of vision correction that is non-surgical and reversible. It involves wearing an overnight retainer contact lens on your eyes. The retainer contact lens gently reshapes the front of your eyes to correct your vision while you are sleeping. In the morning, you remove your contact lenses and enjoy clear vision all day long! At night, you put your retainers back on to maintain the effect of clear vision.
Who is Ortho-K for? Ortho-K is right for anyone who is tired of having to deal with glasses or contact lenses in their daily lives. You might be a candidate if you:
You wanted LASIK, but were told you are a poor candidate for the procedure
You wanted LASIK, but are scared of permanent surgical procedures done on your eyes
You currently wear glasses, but wish you didn’t have to wear them to be able to see
You work in an environment that is dusty or requires safety glasses and are tired of things getting into your contact lenses or trying to fit safety glasses over your own glasses
You are active and athletic and are tired of your glasses constantly sliding down on your sweaty nose
You are tired of your glasses fogging up or your contact lenses drying out at inconvenient moments.
Are there any restrictions for Ortho-K? Ortho-K is a great option for a wide range of ages. Children are great candidates for ortho-K even as young as six years old. Ortho-K is frequently used in myopia management as an effective treatment for slowing down the progression of near-sightedness in children. Their eyes respond very quickly to treatment and most children enjoy clear vision on the morning of Day 1. We are also able to treat patients up to age 55 with great results. For patients over the age of 55, we are able to get results that take a week or two longer than our youngest patients.
We are able to treat a wide variety of prescriptions. We have great results for patients with near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism. For some of our lucky 45+ patients, they find that they don’t need to reach for their reading glasses all the time.
The one thing we emphasize for our patients is having a regular sleep schedule. Because ortho-K retainers work when you are sleeping, ortho-K is best for folks who generally have a consistent sleep schedule. Results are best if you average at least 6+ hours of sleep every night.
Is Ortho-K safe? Yes, Ortho-K CRT has been FDA approved in the US for vision correction since 2002. Because Ortho-K is reversible, if at any time you decide it is not right for you, you can discontinue CRT lens wear and return to using your normal vision correction.
How much does Ortho-K cost? Ortho-K can range from $1,199 to $3,200 depending on the complexity of the correction involved. This price includes lenses and visits. Once the correction is stable, the following years usually decrease in price as less visits are required.
How to find out if ortho-K is for you? The first step is to have a consultation to see if your eyes and your lifestyle are a good fit for ortho-K. During your consultation, we will check your current prescription and overall eye condition to see if ortho-K lenses would work well with your eyes. We can do Ortho-K consults during your annual eye exam. Come in and find out if you are a candidate for ortho-K today!
